With religious zeal and zest, most part of Pakistan is celebrating Eid ul Fitr today, first in two years without any covid-19 strictures.

The religious festive occasion is being celebrated in all parts of the country except Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which had celebrated the occasion on Monday after sighting the moon of Shawwal.

Men and children donning mostly new traditional dresses offered Eid prayer in their nearby mosques while women stayed at homes to prepare feasts to host guests. Despite soaring inflation, the tradition of giving Eidis as well as exchange of gifts is staying alive.

The prominent personalities have also extended their Eid wishes for the nation and wished for Pakistan’s success and prosperity.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Monday announced that the moon of Shawwal 1443 AH has been sighted in Pakistan. The first day of the 10th Islamic month, Shawwal, marks the festival of Eid ul Fitr across the world.

The central committee met at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad while the meetings of zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees were held at their respective headquarters.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad announced the final decision about the crescent sighting after the central committee received legitimate testimonies from different parts of the country.

Notably, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had previously said that the chances of sighting of Shawwal moon in Pakistan were very bright on Monday.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday unlike the rest of Pakistan. KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan’s Special Assistant Barrister Dr Muhammad Ali Saif on Sunday announced that the province was going to celebrate the religious event in light of 130 legitimate testimonies of the moon sighting. The Muslims in the Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Yemen as well as in Europe, America, and East Asia also celebrated Eid ul Fitr on Monday.

In a message on the occasion, the OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed warm felicitations to the entire Islamic ummah on the occasion.
