IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case and granted one-week security bail to Sami Ibrahim and ordered him to approach the relevant court within a week.

At the outset of the hearing, Athar Minallah inquired about the development in Sami Ibrahim’s case to which he was informed that a new case has been registered against the journalist that remained a sheer violation of the court order.

Whereas, the lawyer maintained that the court had ordered the police not to register cases against Fawad Chaudhry and others in the Masjid-e-Nabwi incident.

To which the court said that the cases were political and different from the case against Sami Ibrahim.

Notably, FIA summoned the anchorperson in person on May 13, under PECA’s Section 20, which criminalises defamation, according to the notification. The FIA notification stated that the journalist’s video “spread false and baseless claims against high government personnel.”
