Stephanie Cutter, a former Obama deputy campaign manager, stated on Sunday that President Biden’s record inflation will be a “huge statistic” in the midterm elections, but she disregarded several problems hitting Americans while supporting Biden’s “leadership,” stating he was pushing the country “forward.”
During an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Cutter was outlining Biden’s accomplishments when she said that the US has advanced under Biden “by any criterion, with the exception of inflation.”
“You know, the president has a plan to deal with inflation,” she explained. “We witnessed how swiftly he responded to the newborn formula shortage. He’s in charge of Ukraine, bringing the globe together and re-establishing alliances in the face of autocratic regimes like Putin’s. With the exception of inflation, this country has progressed under his leadership in every way.”
“But gas prices and inflation,” anchor Martha Raddatz interrupted, “that’s a significant measure.” “It’s important to people.”
“It is a significant metric,” Cutter said. “And you know, I think the point thing for Democrats is to see whether or whether candidates and campaigns matter — I believe they do – over the [next] six months or so of this race.”
Cutter appeared to dismiss some of the other key issues that Americans have faced in recent months as a result of the Biden administration’s delay, including the surge of violent crime in major U.S. cities and the ongoing border conflict between the United States and Mexico. According to a study published by Fox News Digital last month, the number of illegal immigrants in the United States surged by around a million in the first year of the Biden administration.
Last summer’s failed Afghan drawdown was also overlooked by the Democratic consultant.
Cutter’s remarks about Biden’s “leadership” come just days after Biden’s Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm denied that high gas prices are the result of Biden’s policies, which include the cancellation of the Keystone pipeline and a “60-day moratorium on all new oil and gas leases on federal lands and waters.” Granholm also shrugged off a query about consumers being concerned about rising petrol costs late last year.
“And you see, House Democrats, who are probably more vulnerable to the president’s approval rating, are really trying to push an agenda forward, get things done, and highlight the difference with Republicans, who aren’t just standing in the way, but are banning books, want to ban abortion, and want to roll back constitutional rights.”
As the president’s support ratings plunge to record lows less than six months before the midterm elections, the Biden administration has been downplaying the risk of the country sliding into recession.
