
A veteran police officer who was one of ten individuals murdered in a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York on Saturday afternoon has been hailed as a “hero” by the city’s police department.
Aaron Salter, a retired Buffalo Police officer, was murdered while attempting to defend others from the gunman, 18-year-old Payton Gendron, inside Tops Markets.

When Gendron entered the store, Salter shot him many times with his handgun. The gunman, on the other hand, was wearing an armored plate that deflected the shots. Salter was then fatally shot by Gendron.
Salter is a “hero in our eyes,” according to Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia. The police force has expressed sympathy to Alter’s family.
“I had the pleasure of knowing him; he was a fantastic man who was well-liked and respected. This is terrifying. It’s heartbreaking. I’m at a loss for words to express it “According to the local publication, Buffalo Police Benevolent Association President John Evans remarked. Salter was one of two victims killed in the shooting that were identified. Ruth Whitfield, 86, was murdered in the incident as well.
