Rwanda bans wearing of face masks

According to a Cabinet of Rwanda communiqué, face masks would no longer be required in outdoor venues in Rwanda.

“While wearing face masks is no longer required, citizens are advised to do so indoors,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement late Friday.

The public is encouraged to be tested periodically while also following preventative measures.
Citizens and Rwanda residents must be completely vaccinated in order to use public venues, including public transportation, according to the government.

When you’re fully vaccinated, you’ll get two doses plus a booster injection if you’re eligible.

The government’s decision is based on a better COVID-19 scenario, with COVID-19 infections in the country declining since the beginning of 2022.Only 59 new instances of COVID-19 infection were reported in the last seven days, with no deaths reported.

Rwanda is one of the few countries on the continent that has been able to vaccinate more than 60% of its people, overcoming vaccine apprehension.

As of May 13, a total of 9,028,849 persons have gotten the first dosage of COVID-19 vaccinations, with 8,494,713 receiving the second dose. According to the Rwandan Ministry of Health’s daily reports, at least 4,371,568 individuals have gotten the booster shot by Friday.
