ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP), an ally of the coalition government, has refused to accept the post of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governor.

ANP Senior Vice President Ameer Haider Khan Hoti called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad and political and economic situation in the country.

The ANP senior leader informed the prime minister about the party’s stand saying they have interest in the coveted post.

Hoti said that the country was suffering from the worst economic crisis due to wrong policies of the previous government.

He said the incumbent government was compelled to take tough decision to save the economy as a huge burden has fallen on the people. He hoped the government will make all efforts to minimize the burden on the masses.

Hoti said that the governorship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been under discussion for a long time and this decision was delayed without any reason.

He said issued has been made controversial and therefore the ANP had no interest in accepting the position.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his desire to make the ANP part of the cabinet once again.

Hoti thanked the prime minister for this trust but said the party has already a decision in this regard which will be maintained.

He hoped that the present government will pay full attention to resolve the basic problems of the masses and bring the economy back on track.

Earlier it had emerged that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government has excused from giving the KP governorship to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F)

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was hoping to receive the post to maintain support for the coalition government.

However, the PML-N wanted to keep the post for itself. The PPP was also expressed reserved over the decision and suggested giving the post to the ANP.
