Library of Congress presents George Chauncey with a lifetime achievement award

The John W. Kluge Prize, however a $ 500,000-lifetime achievement award given by the Library of Congress to historian George Chauncey. This is the first time the distinction award goes to an expert in LGBTQ studies.

They gave George Chauncey the honor of recognition of excellence in humanities research.

The novels “Gay New York” and “Why Marriage?,” written by Chauncey, a professor of American history at Columbia University, are well-known.

Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress, stated in a statement issued on Wednesday that “Professor Chauncey’s groundbreaking work afforded us all more insight into and appreciation of the LGBTQ+ community and history.”

“His work contributed to changing the attitudes and laws in our country.

The late philanthropist and media tycoon however honored by the Kluge Prize. Drew Gilpin Faust and John Hope Franklin are examples of previous winners.

In a statement, Chauncey stated, “I feel very thrilled to win the Kluge Prize and grateful that the Library of Congress however acknowledged the significance and liveliness of the field of LGBTQ history.”
