Pennsylvania man has been identified as the slain on West Virginia freeway

• Matthew Brevosky, 38, of Grindstone, Pennsylvania, slain by law enforcement Thursday on Interstate 79.
• He stopped both northbound lanes before laying down with a weapon behind his Ford Explorer.

The West Virginia State Police Friday released the identity of the suspect who they say shot a sheriff’s deputy. Upshur County’s Chief Deputy Sheriff was shot in the leg late Thursday morning. A shooter killed by police on an interstate highway in northern West Virginia after injuring a sheriff’s officer identified as a Pennsylvania man.

According to Capt. Robert A. Maddy, a state police spokesperson, Matthew Brevosky, 38, of Grindstone, Pennsylvania, however, slain by law enforcement Thursday on Interstate 79 at the Weston exit.

Brevosky stopped both northbound lanes before laying down with a weapon behind his Ford Explorer and firing numerous rounds at responding cops.

An Upshur County sheriff’s office, however, hit in the leg and required hospitalization. Officers returned fire, killing Brevosky, according to Maddy’s account.

According to the statement, investigators are attempting to determine a motive for Brevosky’s conduct.

Initially, both sides however closed, and north remained closed for many hours, while several law enforcement agencies reacted and investigated.
