WASHINGTON – A week before President Joe Biden is scheduled to attend a summit of the Group of Seven advanced economies, US National Security Adviser (NSA) Jake Sullivan tested positive for COVID-19, according to a spokeswoman.

Sullivan had not been in close touch with Biden and was asymptomatic, according to National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson. She stated that it was his first COVID infection.

The White House announced on Saturday that Sullivan met with Senegal’s foreign minister, Aissata Tall Sall, at the White House on Friday. On Monday, he spent four and a half hours in Luxembourg with China’s top diplomat, Yang Jiechi.

It was unclear whether Sullivan’s trip plans would be affected by the positive test.

Biden will fly to southern Germany for the Group of Seven conference and then to Spain for a NATO summit in late June, according to the White House.
