David Tennant returns ‘Doctor Who’ season 14
Jodie Whittaker’s time as the time-traveling hero (a role she replaced Peter Capaldi in) on the venerable BBC America programme came to an end in October 2022. In order to make room for a new cast and a returning showrunner in season 14, she parted ways with Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall.
Ncuti Gatwa, who starred in Sex Education, has been revealed as the Doctor’s upcoming incarnation. The 29-year-old is only a couple of years older than Matt Smith was in 2011, when he attained the record for becoming the Time Lord’s youngest actor by portraying him.
Russell T. Davies, who oversaw the sci-fi show’s 2005 relaunch and left with Tennant in 2010, will take over as showrunner once more. When Gatwa’s selection for the part was announced in May 2022, Davies commented in a release, “Ncuti dazzled us, got hold of the Doctor and possessed those TARDIS keys in seconds.” Working with him is a pleasure and a lot of fun; I can’t wait to get going.
However, the author will not provide any further information. He said to RadioTimes after the announcement, “I can’t wait to talk to you about them because it’s just not fair. Jodie is present. She owns it, she has a big finale in October, and if we start to sneak up on her, we have to reveal today because, thanks to Doctor Who, people will know about Ncuti whether we like it or not.
Although Davies wants viewers to concentrate on Whittaker’s “beyond epic” ending, the BBC has to also reveal Tennant’s return to prevent anyone from giving away the surprise. From 2005 through 2010, the Good Omens actress piloted the TARDIS, the Doctor’s time-traveling spacecraft. He returned in 2013 for the “The Day of the Doctor” 50th anniversary special, and he will do it once more to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the venerable British programme. For the three-episode arc, the Scottish actor will this time work with Catherine Tate, who previously costarred with him as Donna Noble’s partner in the fourth season.
A doctor has arrived! Make that Doctors since season 14 of Doctor Who appears to be bursting at the seams with both new and recognisable faces, including former star David Tennant.

They’ve returned! In the announcement from May 2022, Davies teased. “And it seems unbelievable – first we introduce a new Doctor, then an old Doctor, along with the delightful Donna, what on earth is going on? This might be a missing story. or an alternate reality. Or perhaps a prank, a dream, or a flashback. The only thing I can say for sure is that it will be amazing because two of our biggest stars are coming together for the fight of a lifetime.
