Pakistani celebrities denounce Javed Akhtar’s anti-Pakistan remarks
Together with many of our Pakistani celebs, the recent Faiz Festival in Lahore also invited Bollywood lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar to participate. He spread jingoism when talking about Urdu and Indo-Pak ties. Yet, he received complete respect, was applauded for his anti-Pakistan sentiments, and later, a party was held in his honour. At this reception, Pakistani artists were seated at their knees.
The public initially criticised Pakistani artists for not caring about their self-respect and sitting at Javed Akhtar’s feet, but later, The Print highlighted a statement Javed Akhtar made regarding the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, a video in which Javed Akhtar claimed that terrorists are freely roaming around in Pakistan is circulating on the internet. Later, the party was held, and the entire hall could be heard applauding that statement.

He received a lot of positive publicity for this statement in the Indian media, and he claimed in an interview that after he stated it, the audience cheered and agreed with him in the hallway:
Following this, the video was the target of widespread public criticism on social media. This caused a lot of other musicians to express their opinion and denounce Javed Akhtar’s anti-Pakistan remarks. Statements of condemnation were made by Shaan Shahid, Haroon Shahid, Saboor Aly, Mishi Khan, and Resham who was seen chatting up and posting images of herself with Javed Akhtar at the party.

During the weekend, Lahore hosted the 7th annual International Faiz Festival in memory of poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The event aims to raise awareness of national human rights issues as well as Urdu poetry, music, literature, and drama.
