KARACHI: A Pakistani climber Asif Bhatti who was stuck on Nanga Parbat, safely reached the base camp on Thursday.

Asif Bhatti was stuck at a height of 7500 meters on Nanga Parbat three days ago due to snow blindness. Asif Bhatti came from Camp Four to Camp Two with the help of Israfil Ashurly, a mountaineer from Azerbaijan.

The ground rescue team consisting of Fazal Ali and Mohammad Younis was also present at Nanga Parbat. The ground rescue team had joined Asif Bhatti and Israfil last day.

After joining the ground rescue team, Asif Bhatti and Israfil started moving towards Camp One this morning. A helicopter rescue was not possible due to bad weather.

However, now climber Asif Bhatti has reached the base camp, Asif Bhatti will be taken to Skardu by army helicopter, and after first aid in Skardu, he will be flown to Islamabad.

Earlier, the rescue effort to bring back the Pakistani mountaineer Asif Bhatti, who became stranded on the peak owing to snow blindness, was put on hold on Wednesday at Nanga Parbat because of a rockfall.

Bhatti, who is also a professor at a university, was able to leave camp four after becoming stranded there.
