LAHORE: The Punjab government is considering artificial rain to eliminate smog in Lahore and preparations are underway for it.
Chief Meteorologist of the Meteorological Department Chaudhry Aslam said artificial rain would not take place on November 28 or 29 while the provincial government is still considering it as an option to curb smog from Lahore.
Chaudhry Aslam said that for artificial rain, a special type of spray is applied on the clouds, after some time after the spray, the artificial rain occurs, the duration of the rain can be 45 minutes or more, and the artificial rain will make a big difference on the smog.
The chief meteorologist said that artificial rain was expected in the next month, in 2001 and 2002 artificial rain occurred in summer and winter with the help of Pakistan Army planes.
Earlier, Lahore High Court has ordered the closure of private and government schools and colleges on Saturday to control smog.
Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court heard the petitions for the prevention of smog. PHA lawyer Haris Azmat said that the motorcycles of all the employees of the department have been changed to electric motorbikes.
The court remarked that other institutions should also take such steps.
