IHC reserves verdict on Shehryar Afridi, Shandana Gulzar’s plea on MPO cancellation
The Islamabad High Court has reserved its decision on the petitions filed by PTI’s Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar, seeking the cancellation of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) orders.
The court, presided over by Justice Babar Sattar, concluded arguments on the authority of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad to issue MPO orders.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer, Sher Afzal Marwat, was notably absent from the court, leading to a directive for the submission of written arguments.
To thoroughly examine the powers of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the court had appointed two judicial assistants, Barrister Salahuddin and Waqar Rana, who presented their arguments.
In a significant development, the Islamabad High Court has temporarily suspended the MPO order against Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar.
Additionally, the court issued a restraining order against the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, preventing the issuance of further MPO orders.
