ISLAMABAD: At least eight people were killed and 16 others injured as unknown persons opened fire on a passenger coach on the Karakoram Highway in the Chilas area of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The rescue sources said the incident of firing on the bus took place near Hadar, as a result of which the bus collided with a truck and the bus caught fire.
According to Deputy Commissioner Diamar Arif Ahmed, there were 26 passengers on the bus. He said eight people died and 16 were injured in the incident.
The passenger bus was going to Rawalpindi from Ghizar district, rescue teams have been dispatched to the accident site.
Deputy Commissioner Chilas said that the bodies and the injured have been shifted to Regional Headquarters Hospital Chilas.
Gilgit-Baltistan Interior Minister Shams Lone, while addressing a press conference with special assistants, said that firing on a passenger bus near Chilas is open terrorism.
