Joburg Super Kings (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis once again etched his name in the annals of cricket glory with a spectacular one-handed catch that dismissed MI Cape Town (MICT) batter Dewald Brevis during their SA20 clash.

MICT had surged to an impressive 200-run opening partnership, with Dewald Brevis tasked with maintaining their momentum. Facing a delivery from Lizaad Williams, Brevis attempted to strike down the ground with mid-on and mid-off positioned close. Despite not connecting perfectly, it seemed Brevis had cleared mid-off until Faf du Plessis intervened.

Du Plessis executed a remarkable last-minute dive, extending his right hand to snatch the ball from the air, showcasing his exceptional fielding prowess. The catch left spectators in awe and energized Du Plessis, highlighting why he is regarded as one of the finest fielders in the game.

MI Cape Town had initially set a colossal total of 243/5 in their 20 overs, propelled by a phenomenal double-century partnership from Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton. Van der Dussen notched a remarkable century, while Rickelton’s significant contribution of 98 runs played a crucial role in their team’s formidable score.

Despite the daunting total, JSK found momentum in the latter part of the first innings. Bowlers Lizaad Williams, Imran Tahir, and Nandre Burger effectively neutralized the threat posed by Kieron Pollard and Liam Livingstone. While MICT secured the second-highest total in the history of SA20, JSK’s comeback may have shifted the momentum heading into the second innings.

With Faf du Plessis leading the charge, JSK will be hopeful for a strong start in their pursuit of the formidable target set by MICT. Du Plessis’ exceptional catch not only left a lasting impression on the game but also served as a rallying point for JSK as they aim to make a mark in the SA20 tournament.
