Rains and Snowfall Expected in Pakistan From Saturday

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts rainfall, snowfall, and isolated hailstorms in the upper and central regions of Pakistan from February 17 to 21.

Met officials anticipate a potent westerly wave to reach western Pakistan on February 17 night, potentially impacting the upper and central regions from February 18 onward.

Gilgit Baltistan/Kashmir:

From February 17 to 21, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall in hilly areas is predicted in the Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir regions, with intermittent breaks. Isolated hailstorms may also be observed during this timeframe.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

From February 17 to 20, expect moderate to heavy rain accompanied by wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall in hilly areas of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan, with intermittent breaks. Isolated hailstorms may also be observed during this period.

Punjab/Islamabad:

From February 17 to 21, anticipate moderate to heavy rain, accompanied by wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall in hilly areas of Murree, Galyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, and Kasur. On February 18–19, expect light to moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Multan, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Isolated hailstorms may also occur during this period.

Balochistan:

On February 18–19, anticipate rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfall in the hilly areas of Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, and Kohlu.

Sindh:

From February 18 to 20, dry weather with strong gusty winds is forecast for the southern parts of the province.

Possible impacts and advice:

Expect heavy rain or snowfall, potentially leading to traffic disruptions and road closures in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli from February 18 to 20.
