Rain predicted in Lahore, parts of Punjab
This month, Pakistan is expected to feel the effects of two westerly weather systems entering through Balochistan. The first, a weaker system, is forecast to affect only Balochistan. However, the second system, expected by March 9, has a 50% chance of bringing rainfall to Sindh, including Karachi. This winter, Pakistan has already experienced five such systems.
The Department of Meteorology’s Early Warning Center predicts a reduction in cold weather throughout the province, including Karachi, starting on March 6. Pakistan will experience the arrival of two consecutive western systems from Iran through Balochistan.
Karachi’s Chief Meteorologist, Sardar Sarfraz, states that after the recent departure of the rain-inducing western system, two new systems are set to enter Balochistan. The first, arriving today, is relatively weak and is likely to affect Balochistan alone. However, the second system, expected on March 9, appears stronger based on instrument data and could impact the weather in Sindh, including Karachi. Further details will be provided in the upcoming days.
Karachi’s official weather station at Pehalwan Goth registered a minimum temperature of 11.1 degrees Celsius, marking a two-degree decrease from the previous day, while the maximum temperature reached 26.2 degrees Celsius. The Jinnah Terminal Airport Weather Station recorded a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius.
In rural Sindh, Mohenjodaro recorded the lowest temperature of two degrees Celsius.
The Department of Meteorology’s Early Warning Centre predicts a probable decrease in the severe cold wave prevailing across the province, including Karachi, from March 6. Northeasterly winds from Balochistan are expected to persist in Karachi until Wednesday afternoon, followed by southwesterly winds likely to blow on Thursday.
