KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Thursday said that during his tenure as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, he had not received any complaints from high court judges regarding interference from other institutions in the judicial process.

Speaking at the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), Justice Isa emphasized that if there had been any interference, it had not been reported to him, and any incidents mentioned occurred before he assumed office as the CJP.

He acknowledged the support extended by the SHCBA to six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) who had written to him. He expressed gratitude on their behalf for this support.

In the previous month, six judges of the IHC wrote a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) seeking guidance on the interference of intelligence agencies in court affairs. The letter highlighted concerns about actions that could be seen as intimidation or interference with judicial functions by members of the executive or intelligence agencies.

Following this, the Supreme Court initiated suo motu proceedings and requested proposals from various legal bodies and the government on how to address and prevent such issues in the future.

A recent full court meeting of the IHC, chaired by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, unanimously decided to formulate an institutional response to external interference in judicial affairs, signaling a strong stance against meddling by intelligence agencies in court matters. The meeting aimed to finalize proposals to be submitted to the Supreme Court regarding this issue.
