Transporters Raises Fare Prices Ahead of EID
As Eid ul Fitr nears, transport providers have hiked fares throughout the region, attributing it to the recent surge in fuel costs. Travelers moving between cities will now face an extra cost of Rs. 100 to Rs. 300 on all routes, while local fares have also risen by Rs. 5 to Rs. 10.
As people start leaving Rawalpindi and Islamabad ahead of Eid festivities, the exodus is set to commence this Friday. The final working day before Eid is on Tuesday, April 9. The fare hike is happening amidst the expected surge in travel activity during this time.
The Regional Transport Authority has called for a meeting today, April 3, with transport terminal owners and major transporters to address concerns about overloading and overcharging during the Eid rush. Despite the district administration’s directives, transporters have shown reluctance to decrease fares, although efforts will be made to tackle these issues.
Transporters Raises Fare Prices Ahead of EID
Pakistan Railways will start four special Eid trains on Sunday, April 7, to accommodate the increased number of travelers. However, the absence of Eid trains originating from Rawalpindi and Islamabad has raised concerns among residents who rely on bus transport for their Eid travels.
Transport terminals like the General Bus Stand Pirwadhai in Rawalpindi have geared up to handle the surge in demand by completing preparations to accommodate travelers. To meet the increased demand, extra coaches will be added to trains three days before Eid, and seating will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Asif Khan, the Vice President of the Transport Federation, has stated that vehicles will be accessible for various destinations such as Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Karachi, and cities in Azad Kashmir. Ticket bookings are now open for all routes, and services are running round the clock for the convenience of passengers.
