PA Speaker suspends membership of MPAs elected on reserved seats
LAHORE: The Speaker Punjab Assembly suspended the membership of 27 treasury MPAs who were elected on the reserved seats in the light of the Supreme Court’s verdict.
The membership of 27 MPAs elected on reserved seats were suspended in the Punjab Assembly session chaired by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan declared the point of order of opposition member Rana Aftab on specific seats as correct. These 27 specific seats for women and minorities were given to the government alliance.
Among the suspended members are 24 women and 3 minority members. Among the suspended women members are 21 members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), one member each of Pakistan People Party (PPP), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) while the suspended minority members include 2 members of PML-N and one member of PPP.
As a result of the implementation of the decision of the Supreme Court, 23 votes of PML-N and 2 votes of PPP have decreased in the Punjab Assembly, while one vote each of PML-Q and IPP has also decreased.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court had suspended the decision to give the reserved quota seats of the Sunni Ittehad Council to other parties.
