Sindh introduces ‘Premium Number Plates’ with heritable, transferable rights
In Karachi, the Sindh government plans to auction ‘Premium Number Plates’ that can be inherited and transferred, increasing their appeal and value to potential buyers.
The initiative is aimed at generating funds through the choice number fee mechanism. Provincial authorities have approved significant decisions, including the introduction of premium number plates for vehicles and allocating Rs1.5 billion for acquiring an MRI system for the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) in Sukkur.
In the meeting, Sindh Minister of Excise and Taxation, Sharjeel Memon, proposed the introduction of number plates for vehicles to the cabinet members.

As of 2024, the Sindh Excise Department provides three varieties of number plates for commercial vehicles, non-commercial vehicles, and motorcycles.
In the past few years, the Sindh government has issued a total of 71,645 choice numbers, resulting in revenue of Rs44 million from the choice number fee mechanism.
These expensive number plates offer distinctive features, such as personalized ownership that can be inherited and transferred to another vehicle. They also feature CNIC-based registration and are applicable to any private vehicle. Additionally, they are reusable on any vehicle and offer customizable color shades for platinum numbers, with the exception of prescribed colors. Moreover, they can be transferred to another CNIC for a prescribed fee.
