Earthquake Hits Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Parts of KP
ISLAMABAD – A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, causing widespread concern among residents.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad reported that the tremors were felt across the twin cities and various regions in the northwestern province. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in southeastern Afghanistan, with a recorded depth of 98 kilometers.
Residents in Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced noticeable shaking, prompting many to leave their homes and workplaces in search of safety. The tremors were also felt in several cities within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swat, Parachinar, Malakand, Lower Dir, Hangu, Charsadda, Swabi, and surrounding areas.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, but the tremor served as a stark reminder of the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and to follow safety protocols in the event of aftershocks.
The earthquake highlights the importance of preparedness and the need for efficient emergency response mechanisms to handle such natural disasters. As the region continues to experience seismic activity, ongoing efforts to educate the public on earthquake safety and preparedness are essential to mitigate potential risks and ensure the well-being of the population.
