
PESHAWAR – A 4.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Swat, and other parts of northwestern Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
People in nearby cities felt tremors from an earthquake and came out of their homes reciting verses from the Quran.
Details shared by seismological center suggest intensity of the earthquake was recorded at 4.9 on the Richter scale, while the depth of the earthquake was at 215 km. The epicenter was Hindu Kush mountain range.
Earthquakes often happen in northwestern Pakistan because it sits where the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate meet. These plates are always shifting and colliding, causing frequent seismic activity in the area.
