In a bid to combat increasing power costs, the Punjab government is taking a bold step towards sustainable energy. Reports indicate that the government plans to encourage solar energy adoption across the province, providing significant incentives to citizens.

Under this new initiative, citizens consuming up to 200 units of electricity will receive free solar systems. Those using between 200 and 500 units can access interest-free loans for solar panel installation, making it easier for more people to transition to renewable energy.

This move comes at a critical time as electricity tariffs continue to rise. This week, the average basic electricity tariff was approved to increase from Rs29.78 to Rs35.50. Additionally, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reported a staggering Rs403 billion loss in Pakistan’s power sector during the financial year 2022-23.
