PTI approaches SJC against CEC, ECP members
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approached the Supreme Judicial Council(SJC) against the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub filed the complaint through Barrister Ali Zafar.
In the complaint, PTI mentioned the events before and after the elections and said that the ECP failed to fulfill its constitutional responsibility of fair and transparent elections. PTI’s polling agents were thrown out of the polling stations during the elections. PTI took the stand that the ECP failed to release the results as per the law and turned a blind eye to the pre-poll rigging.
PTI further said that the loyalties of PTI members were changed in the press conference, nomination papers were taken away from PTI candidates, and workers were abducted. At the same time, coverage of PTI was banned but ECP has not taken action. The PTI was not even allowed to campaign.
In the complaint to the Supreme Judicial Council, it has been said that Form 45 was not given to media and polling agents on time. Returning Officers were appointed on a political basis and ECP not only excluded PTI from the elections but also took away reserved seats. The ECP has become a party against PTI in the courts.
In the complaint, PTI requested that an inquiry be conducted against the Chief Election Commissioner and ECP members for misconduct and if the allegations are proven.
The dismissal of the Chief Election Commissioner and members should be recommended.
