UAE, Saudi Arabia Visa Update for Pakistanis – August 2024
A significant number of Pakistanis are employed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, where their contributions are crucial to the economies of these Gulf nations. These workers also send substantial remittances back to Pakistan.
However, recent developments have raised concerns. Both Abu Dhabi and Riyadh have issued warnings regarding Pakistani expatriates and their labor force. During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis, officials revealed that Gulf countries have expressed concerns about Pakistani workers being involved in begging and other illegal activities.
The rise in such criminal behavior has led the UAE and Saudi Arabia to caution Islamabad against sending individuals who may engage in these activities. The problem extends beyond these Gulf nations; Pakistani beggars have also been reported in countries like Iraq.
In Dubai and other UAE states, there has been an increase in the number of Pakistani workers, accompanied by new issues related to overstaying visas and engaging in criminal behavior. Pakistani workers in Iraq are facing harsh conditions, and many in Malaysia are facing imprisonment due to visa overstays.
Sources suggest that if these criminal activities continue to rise, Pakistanis may face increased visa rejections in the future.
