Weather update; rains, gusty winds likely in Islamabad, parts of Pakistan
Weather Update Pakistan: The Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Mehar Sahibzada Khan, has called on citizens and tourists to adopt precautionary measures in response to the ongoing monsoon rains predicted to continue until July 21. He emphasized the importance of avoiding areas prone to landslides.
The PMD has directed officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and other district administrations to remain alert during the current spell of rain to prevent any untoward incidents.
All four provinces, along with Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), are likely to see more rain, wind, and thunderstorms because of the current weather conditions.
The public has been advised to take precautions to prevent flooding and ensure safety from lightning strikes. Citizens are urged to avoid going outside during severe weather and to maintain a safe distance from electrical poles and wires.
To alert local communities, tourists, and travelers in at-risk areas, relevant departments have been instructed to perform their designated duties diligently. Locals and tourists have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
Khan highlighted that landslides might disrupt roads in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the spell.
Khan mentioned that the PDMA control room is keeping an eye on the weather all the time. They’re asking everyone to follow government directions for safety. He also said PDMA is using up-to-date information for precise weather predictions.
“We are committed to safeguarding the public by providing timely and accurate weather updates,” Khan concluded.
