This feature, already available on iPhones since May, aims to provide text versions of voice messages directly on phones, making communication easier and more accessible.

Key Features of the New Feature

The WABetaInfo team shared a screenshot showcasing the voice message transcription capability. Initially available in languages such as English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi, WhatsApp plans to expand support to include more languages in the future. Users can download additional language packs to enhance privacy, as transcribed messages are stored locally on their devices.

Potential Challenges and Future Updates

While the feature is set to revolutionize messaging, its effectiveness with Urdu voice messages in Pakistan may be limited upon launch, though some messages in Urdu may still be transcribed due to the app’s support for Hindi. Generally, the accuracy of transcriptions is expected to be higher for messages in English.
