Another polio case surfaces in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: A new polio case has been found in Killa Abdullah, bringing to 65 tally of polio cases reported to date this year in the country.
The regional reference laboratory for polio eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the presence of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in the child from Killa Abdullah area of Balochistan.
A one-and-a-half-year-old malnourished boy from Union Council Sagai, Tehsil Gulistan, Killa Abdullah district, has been confirmed as Pakistan’s 65th polio case of 2024.
The child, who has a history of repeated diarrheal episodes, is the seventh polio victim from Killa Abdullah and the 14th from the Quetta block this year.
Pakistan is experiencing a resurgence of WPV1 this year.
A total 65 polio cases have been reported out of which 27 cases are from Balochistan, 18 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

Earlier, Pakistan has recorded another polio case, raising the total number of cases in 2024 to 64.
The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) for Polio Eradication confirmed that the latest case was detected in Jacobabad, Sindh, marking the fourth case from the area this year.
