JCP approves appointment of six SC judges
ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has approved the appointment of six judges in the apex court.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers and two Supreme Court judges boycotted the Judicial Commission of Pakistan’s meeting for the appointment of new judges to the supreme court.
A Judicial Commission meeting chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi was held. The meeting demanded the postponement of the meeting till the decision on the 26th Constitutional Amendment, but voting on this objection, the majority decided that the meeting would be continued.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar boycotted the meeting for not halting the proceedings of the Judicial Commission, while Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Barrister Ali Zafar also boycotted the meeting.
According to sources, the Judicial Commission approved the name of Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.
Sources said that Sindh High Court Justice Salahuddin Panwar and Justice Shakeel Ahmed of the Peshawar High Court were approved to appoint a Supreme Court judge.
Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb has been appointed as ad-hoc justice of the Supreme Court.
These appointments aim to complete the number of judges in the apex court and enhance judicial efficiency.
However, final approval for these appointments will be granted by the President of Pakistan.
