Punjab plans to shift 43 jails to solar energy
LAHORE: The Punjab Government has decided to shift all 43 prisons across Punjab to solar energy and Home Department has finalized the plan.
The Home Department Punjab has submitted the final plan for the approval of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.
Spokesman Home Department Punjab said that the preliminary survey of all the prisons has been completed. During the survey, the cost has been estimated for the transfer of solar energy to the prisons.
The spokesman added that the annual bill of electricity and gas in 43 prisons of Punjab has reached 4 billion. All prisons can be transferred to solar energy at a cost of Rs 4 billion 35 crore.
According to the spokesperson, the implementation of the proposed solution to Green Energy will reduce the electricity bills by 60 percent.
It has been recommended to allocate Rs 2 billion during the current financial year for the project.
