KARACHI: The first spell of monsoon rains in Karachi has turned tragic, claiming 14 lives over two days due to traffic accidents, electrocution, and other rain-related incidents.

According to Rescue authorities, seven people died due to the traffic accidents, four from electrocution, one after falling from a roof, one in a wall collapse and one drowned in a stream.

A man electrocuted at a puncture shop in Firdous Colony area of Golimar, in second incident Man electrocuted at home near Shan Baraf Depot in New Karachi Sector 11J, 22-year-old Kamran electrocuted in a factory in Labour Square SITE Area while 21-year-old Ahmed died due to electric shock at home in Khuda Ki Basti Surjani Town.

Traffic Accident Fatalities:

A pedestrian killed by unidentified vehicle in Ibrahim Haidery area of Korangi, Motorcyclist killed by speeding Suzuki Mauripur Road, Pedestrian hit by speeding bus in Shireen Jinnah Colony, man killed by unknown vehicle in near Dhobi Ghat, Kashti Masjid Lyari, motorcyclist hit and killed late at night at Super Highway.

Similarly, Suzuki crashed into pillar, 1 dead near National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD),  KE vehicle ran over customers at a hotel — 1 dead, 1 injured in Sherpao Colony Landhi.

Other Fatal Incidents:

A worker fell from textile factory roof and died in New Karachi Industrial Area, man died after wall collapsed in Lyari and man drowned in a stream near Lyari Expressway Toll Plaza.

Authorities have urged the public to take precautions during rain and follow safety guidelines, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
