MULTAN: Two prime suspects involved in a multi-billion rupee online fraud case have been arrested from Multan, according to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The arrested individuals, both residents of District Layyah, had been on the run for over a year. Their apprehension marks a major breakthrough in one of South Punjab’s largest financial cybercrime investigations.

The NCCIA revealed that dozens of inquiries related to the scandal are registered in its Multan office. The suspects are accused of defrauding citizens across South Punjab of billions of rupees through sophisticated online financial scams.

According to NCCIA officials, the arrested individuals include Sammar Abbas Tamghar, and his accomplice, both residents of District Layyah. The suspects had been absconding for the past year.

The scam is believed to have targeted thousands of people across South Punjab, with fraud totaling nearly Rs20 billion. Raids are currently underway to apprehend another key suspect, Abdul Hayye, who remains at large.

The suspects lured citizens by promising a 30% return on investment, deceiving them into pouring money into fraudulent online schemes.

Authorities say the accused misled the public with fabricated investment schemes and fictitious development plans, siphoning off billions in the process.
