ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians’ Spokesperson Shazia Marri said that the proposed 18 per cent tax on solar panels is unacceptable, and that the salary and pension increases are inadequate in light of the prevailing inflation.

Reacting to the federal budget, PPP Parliamentarians’ spokesperson Shazia Marri said terms salary and pension increases insufficient amid inflation.

She further criticized the allocation of only Rs. 15 billion for the Rs. 400 billion Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway project, calling it a mockery.

Meanwhile, following the budget proposal to impose an 18% tax on solar panels, retailers have already increased prices, adding further burden on consumers.

Earlier, The federal budget for 2025-26 has been presented in the National Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. Here are the significant decisions announced:

Small Cars: The sales tax rate on small cars is being increased from 12.5% to 18%. This will likely make these vehicles more expensive.

Solar Panels: An 18% sales tax is being imposed on the import of solar panels. According to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, this decision aims to promote the local solar panel industry within the country.
