DHAKA:  At least 19 people have been killed after a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into a school and college campus in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The incident occurred at 1:06 PM local time when the aircraft took off for a routine training flight but crashed into a college building in the Uttara area of Dhaka. The crash led to a massive fire and caused significant structural damage to the building.

While initial reports claim 19 fatalities, local media have officially confirmed one death so far. Rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and launched emergency response operations.

More than 50 people, including children and adults, were hospitalised with burns, a doctor at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery told reporters.

The incident occurred at the Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s northern area of Uttara, officials said.

The fire was brought under control, and efforts are underway to assess the full extent of casualties and damage.

The Bangladeshi Army has also confirmed the Air Force training aircraft F7BGI, but the army has not released any information on casualties and pilots in the incident.

Rescue officials at the scene said that several people were also injured in the accident, which has been shifted to CMH for immediate medical help.
