KARACHI: The city of Karachi has witnessed a sharp rise in crime during the first six months of 2025, with over 35,000 incidents of murder, street crime, robbery, and extortion reported, leaving citizens at the mercy of armed criminals and extortionists.

According to the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC): 8,588 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint, 20,000 motorcycles were stolen, and 3,600 motorcycles were forcibly snatched.

Over 1,022 cars and other vehicles were either stolen or snatched in separate incidents.

In terms of violent crime, police sources reported: 284 people were murdered in various incidents, 51 citizens lost their lives resisting robberies, falling victim to criminals’ gunfire.

The CPLC also confirmed that: 11 cases of kidnapping for ransom were reported in the first five months of the year, 39 incidents of extortion were also recorded in the same period.

The alarming statistics point to a serious law and order crisis in the city, with widespread public concern over the deteriorating safety situation and a growing demand for urgent reforms in policing and urban security.
