On the other hand, Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, has clarified the reasons behind the recent surge in petroleum product prices, stating that the move was necessary to avoid complications with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“We fully understand the difficulties faced by the people,” the minister said, “but had we not increased fuel prices, it could have created serious issues in our ongoing engagement with the IMF.”

He further added that the Pakistani rupee has depreciated by Rs2 against the US dollar, which also contributed to the rise in petrol prices.
