The Sindh government has declared a two-day public holiday on July 5 and 6, 2025, marking the 9th and 10th of Muharram, in observance of Ashura.

notification, issued by the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department on July 1, confirms that all provincial government offices, along with autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions, corporations, and local councils under Sindh’s administrative control will remain closed on these days. However, departments providing essential services will continue operations without interruption.

The declaration was made under the directives of Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, with instructions already dispatched to all relevant departments to ensure smooth implementation.

However, departments involved in Muharram-related processions and security arrangements will remain operational. The notification also notes that the holiday does not extend to employees engaged in essential services.
Ashura, a day of profound religious significance, will be observed nationwide on Sunday, July 6. The federal government had already declared public holidays on these dates earlier in the week.
