Harare: South African prodigious batter Jorich Van Schalkwyk has etched his name in the annals of Under-19 One-Day International cricket history, reaching a monumental milestone.

The young South African opener created a new chapter by smashing the first-ever double century in a Youth ODI International.

The 18-year-old opening batter achieved this significant record against the Zimbabwe U19 team in the opening match of the ongoing Tri-Nation series in Harare. He crafted a magnificent innings of 215 runs from just 153 balls, an aggressive knock that included 19 fours and 6 sixes.

This marks the first double century by any batter in the U19 format. Previously, the highest individual score was 191 runs, set by Sri Lankan batter Hasitha Boyagoda in 2018.

Van Schalkwyk’s historic innings propelled the South African U19 team to a formidable total of 385 runs in their allotted overs, setting a massive target for Zimbabwe. In response, the Zimbabwe team was bowled out for just 107 runs in the 25th over.
