Metrological department issues urban flooding alert for Karachi
Karachi: The Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for Karachi, cautioning residents about the risk of urban flooding due to ongoing heavy rainfall linked to a powerful monsoon system.
According to the latest updates, the intense weather system is already impacting parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is now moving towards southern Sindh.
Karachi is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days, which could result in water accumulation in low-lying areas and disrupt daily life.
The Meteorological Department has particularly warned that the next 48 hours are critical for Karachi, as heavy downpours may lead to significant urban flooding. Residents are urged to take precautionary measures, especially those living in vulnerable zones.
Other districts in Sindh, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Badin, Hyderabad, and Shaheed Benazirabad, are also expected to experience varying intensities of rain through August 23.
While the rainfall is expected to bring relief from the intense heat and humidity that has gripped Karachi in recent days, authorities emphasize that shifting wind patterns and a westward-moving low-pressure system could continue to influence the weather across the province.
