Pakistan confirms two new polio cases

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has recorded two additional polio cases, pushing the nationwide total to 21 cases in 2025, health officials confirmed on Monday.

The latest infections were detected in Lower Kohistan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Badin (Sindh), triggering strengthened vaccination campaigns in the affected districts.

According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), the newly confirmed cases include: A six-year-old girl from Union Council Pattan, Lower Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A 21-month-old girl from Union Council Matli-II, Badin, Sindh.

With these reports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s polio cases have risen to 13, while Sindh’s count has reached 6. Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan have each reported one case earlier this year.

Health authorities said intensified door-to-door vaccination drives are being launched in high-risk areas to curb further transmission.

Pakistan will launch a nationwide polio vaccination campaign on September 1, during which millions of children under five will be administered drops. Special focus will be placed on high-risk districts, including areas where fresh cases have emerged.
