QUETTA: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), in collaboration with local authorities, has launched a large-scale operation to eliminate poppy cultivation and dismantle drug dens across Balochistan, following directives from Field Marshal Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir.

The campaign, being conducted under the direct supervision of the Army Chief and the Balochistan government, aims to make the province drug-free by targeting cultivation, production, and trafficking networks.

As part of the ongoing drive, poppy crops in several areas have already been destroyed, while actions are being taken against groups linked to narcotics production and smuggling.

Officials said the strategy also includes introducing alternative livelihood opportunities for local communities to prevent a return to illicit crop cultivation.

The initiative underscores the need for a comprehensive, long-term approach to break the nexus between drugs, crime, and terrorism—a network that fuels instability across the region.

Authorities stressed that the anti-drug campaign is not solely a government effort but a national responsibility, calling for active participation from security forces as well as citizens to eradicate the menace once and for all.
