LAHORE: The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 89 terrorists during 940 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted across the province over the past three months.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the arrested suspects belong to various cities. These include 14 from Lahore and Rawalpindi, 7 each from Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, 6 from Jhang, 6 from Sargodha, 5 from Sahiwal, 4 from Gujranwala, and 3 from Gujrat.
The operations were launched to counter potential terrorist threats in the province, the spokesperson added.
The spokesman said that explosives, 85 detonators, 183 feet wire, 717 pamphlets, mobile phones, cash, prime cards and sensitive material were recovered from the terrorists’ possession.
According to the spokesman, the terrorists were planning to spread panic through attacks in various places.
The CTD added that during the last three months, 13,521 combing operations were also conducted, of which 5,52,692 persons were questioned, while 1131 suspects were arrested.
