ABU DHABI: Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka registered an unwanted record during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against Pakistan, becoming the player with the most ducks in T20 International cricket.
Facing Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, Shanaka was dismissed for zero on the very first ball he faced, sent back to the pavilion by Hussain Talat.
This latest dismissal adds another zero to Shanaka’s tally, cementing his place at the top of the list for most T20I ducks an unenviable milestone in international cricket.
He now surpasses the likes of Rwanda’s Martin Akaiyizu, Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar, and Ireland’s Paul Stirling all of whom have 13 ducks in T20Is.
“Every cricketer faces highs and lows, but Shanaka will be eager to bounce back stronger after this unwanted milestone,” said a former Sri Lankan player while reacting to the news.
As for the match, Pakistan comfortably chased down Sri Lanka’s modest target of 134 runs, securing a five-wicket win in the 18th over. The result tightened the competition in the Super Four stage, but Shanaka’s form remains a growing concern for Sri Lanka as the tournament progresses.
