LAHORE: Sixteen years have passed since the demise of Yousuf Khan, the veteran actor known for his commanding voice, dignified screen presence, and unforgettable performances in Urdu and Punjabi cinema.

Born on August 10, 1931, in Ferozepur, East Punjab, Yousuf Khan began his film career in 1954 with Parwaaz, starring alongside the celebrated actress Sabiha Khanum. His natural acting style and ability to portray realistic characters quickly established him as one of Pakistan’s finest actors.

In Urdu cinema, he left a strong mark with memorable roles in films such as Mujrim, Hasrat, Bharosa, Faisla, and Naya Daur. His Punjabi film career took off with the 1962 release Pahaaran, and he went on to star in numerous blockbusters including Malangi, Yarana, Bao Ji, Ziddi, Warrant, Hathkadi, Jugni, Sharif Badmash, Qismat, Jabroo, Khatarnak, Haider Khan, and Budha Gujjar.

in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Pakistani film industry, Yusuf Khan was awarded the Presidential Award Tamgha-e-Husn-e-Karkardagi (Pride of Performance) by the Government of Pakistan in 2006.

He also received the prestigious Nigar Award as well as the Nigar Millennium Award, celebrating his legacy and impact on cinema.

Reflecting on Yusuf Khan’s career, film critic Ahmed Ali remarked, “Yusuf Khan brought a unique intensity to his roles, blending realism with charisma. His performances continue to inspire actors and audiences alike.”

Yusuf Khan passed away on September 21, 2009, in Lahore, leaving behind a rich legacy that remains influential in Pakistan’s film history.
