Dubai: A dramatic incident occurred during the Asia Cup T20 clash between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates when Sri Lankan field umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge was struck on the head by the ball and forced to leave the field.

The incident happened in the sixth over of UAE’s innings. Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris threw the ball back towards bowler Saim Ayub, but it accidentally hit the standing umpire on the head.

Following the injury, Palliyaguruge received immediate medical attention and subsequently walked off the field, leaving the match temporarily short of an on-field official.

Following the impact, the match was briefly paused as medical personnel rushed in to assist the injured umpire. Due to the severity of the blow, Palliyaguruge was unable to continue officiating.

Reserve umpire Ghazi Sohail promptly took over the umpiring duties for the remainder of the game, ensuring smooth continuation of the match. The incident highlighted the unpredictable risks officials face on the field.
