Former South African captain and legendary batsman AB de Villiers has voiced his disappointment regarding the Indian cricket team’s behavior during the Asia Cup, particularly in relation to sportsmanship.

Speaking on a recent broadcast, de Villiers suggested that the Indian team’s apparent dissatisfaction with not securing the trophy overshadowed the spirit of the game. He stressed that such conduct is unrelated to cricket and should have no place in the sport.

“Politics must be kept separate from sports. Cricket is a distinct arena that deserves to be celebrated respectfully,” he stated.

Reflecting on the Asia Cup closing ceremony, de Villiers expressed his dismay at the situation, hoping that the issues would be resolved promptly. “Witnessing these events was disheartening. It has put both the sport and the players in a challenging position, which is truly regrettable,” he added.

De Villiers called for a clear separation between regional political tensions and the game of cricket, emphasizing that mixing the two compromises the integrity and spirit of fair competition. “Such scenes are deeply disappointing,” he concluded.
