KARACHI: Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has announced that the e-challan system for traffic violations in Karachi will be fully resumed from October 27.

According to the IG, the Safe City Programme and the traffic police are jointly working on the technical setup and coordination for the relaunch.

He explained that the manual challan process had been temporarily halted due to technical reasons, as the 10-year contract with the company responsible for providing challan machines and collecting fines expired on September 30.

Ghulam Nabi Memon added that no new contract has been signed with the previous or any other company because the e-ticketing system under the Safe City Programme is set to be launched in the coming weeks.

He added that if there are no challan on violation of traffic laws for a few weeks, it does not matter.

IG Sindh further stated that e-challans are currently being generated as part of a dummy process, adding that these challans are not being sent to the citizens.

He said that a series of e -ticketing across the city will begin on October 27 after the inauguration of Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, which will clearly reduce the violation of traffic laws.

Responding to a question, Ghulam Nabi Memon said that a committee consisting of a representative of SP, DSP and CPLC has been constituted to resolve the complaints on the ticket.
