KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration unit arrested a proclaimed offender wanted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for the past 15 years at Jinnah International Airport Karachi.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Kamran Ahmed Khan, had been named in a NAB reference filed in 2010 in Karachi. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had fled to the United Arab Emirates(UAE) soon after the case was registered.
The spokesperson further said that Kamran was taken into custody upon his arrival from Uganda, as his name had been placed on the stop list.
The spokesman said that the accused used Malta’s passport and resident card to avoid arrest, he made Malta’s passport and remedant card for US $ 6,000 with the help of an agent.
The spokesman added that the passport and resident card presented by the accused turned out to be fake because according to the travel record, the accused had never traveled to Malta.
Earlier, In a big step to stop illegal travel, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has introduced a modern immigration control system at Sialkot International Airport.
The FIA has opened a fully equipped Second-Line Immigration Control Office at the airport with the support of ICMPD and the Embassy of Denmark.
According to the FIA spokesperson, the new office has advanced forensic and IT tools that help officers check forged passports, fake visas, and suspicious travel documents more effectively.
Officials said the upgraded system will strengthen the fight against human smuggling and illegal immigration. It also improves document screening to meet international standards.
Similar offices are already working at Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, and Peshawar airports.
